Over a decade of refinement, obsession, and testing has gone into the creation of this ultralight backpacking gear list. Comfortable in temperatures down to 30℉ (-1℃), with generous safety, survival, and first aid essentials.

Ultralight Approach
Skill Unlocks > Gear
While UL gear is typically our first introduction to 'ultralight', the most impactful and important aspect for myself are skill unlocks:
- MacGyver level on-trail ingenuity - to do more with less
- Training the body to sleep on 1" of padding
- Training the mind and palette to enjoy a main meal midday, and snacks otherwise - while still achieving daily caloric intake
These skill unlocks enable one to drastically simplify daily trail life, reduce mental overhead, and the quantity and weight of gear items. I believe this topic warrants a full article on each skill unlock to delve deeper into why they are worth the effort / investment, and in time I hope to add that information.

Hiking Style
A Typical Day
A typical day is 20-30 miles with 10-12 miles in the first part of day, then the remainder into the night. Food is no cook, plus grazing snacks from bottom pocket of pack, with a midday break, main meal, and socializing. Spend very little time "at camp", use food bag/shoes as pillow with items on top for cushion/height. Sleep at least 50-100 feet above/beyond typical camp spots to avoid crowds, snoring, bugs, critters, and cold sinks (katabatic flow).
